Barb Berry was appointed SAA’s first Principal in August of 2022. She joins us with 30 years of teaching and supervisory experience, after retiring from GST BOCES, where she taught in a variety of Special Education Classrooms.

Barb graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mansfield University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education: Special Education K-12 with a concentration in Psychology and was a Member of Kappa Delta Pi, Honor Society for Educators. She also received her Master of Science Degree in Education: Elementary Education N-6 with a concentration in Reading, also from Mansfield University. Barb has NYS Permanent Certification in Special Education K-12 and Elementary Education N-6. She started Teaching for Steuben-Allegany BOCES (now GST BOCES) in September 1989 and taught a variety of Special Education Classrooms over her 30 year teaching career which included every grade and subject from Pre-School to the Transition Program, students age 21.

Barb has enjoyed the past 3 years being home with her children. She has 2 sons, Johnathan age 26, Wyatt age 17 and twin daughters, Molly and Mallory age 13. She has been a Foster Parent for Hillside and Kinship and 3 of her 4 children are adopted from the Foster Care System. In her spare time, she is very active in the community. She has served as a Cub Scout Leader, Board Member on several community organizations Board of Directors, taught dance at Dancin’ on Edge Dance Studio and Kickboxing at the Hornell YMCA. She is a practicing Christian, member of the Arkport Presbyterian Church and participates in weekly Bible Study classes. She has taught Sunday School, participated in Adult Sunday School and was on the Christian Education Committee of the Hornell Presbyterian Church. She is very excited to bring her love of teaching and working with children to the position of Principal at SAA.
